Twitter: Zuckerbergās Second Tweet in the Last 11 Years
Meta's Twitter-like app, Threads, is now live, boasting a clean, user-friendly layout. Features include posts with up to 500 characters, and the ability to include links, photos, and videos of up to 5 minutes. Users can switch between light and dark modes and enjoy the convenience of in-app voice notes, photo and video tagging, and even post reactions. The launch version will allow users to limit replies, offering a range of controls to personalize the user experience.
š YouTube Tests Hyperlinked Keywords for Enhanced In-App Discovery
YouTube is testing search hyperlinks added to keywords within comments for improved content discovery. The hyperlinks, determined by YouTube, will be added to phrases or words that encourage exploration and cannot be modified by the commenter. Also, the platform is making community posts viewable on tablets and is updating its Channel Memberships functionality to manage memberships via the Studio mobile app. A new YouTube Analytics metric will show the number of users who have opted into live-stream or Premiere reminders.
š Social Media Outpaces as Breaking News Source

Social media is increasingly being used as a primary source for breaking news, with usage rising from Q3-2021 to Q2-2023, especially among Gen Z and Millennial users. It's poised to overtake cable news channels in popularity. Conversely, TikTok's usage as a search engine for products declined among these demographics, as Amazon's popularity surged. These trends highlight a shift in how brands and news agencies should approach advertising and news distribution.
š² Instagram Enables Triple Collaborations on Posts and Reels
Instagram has introduced an update allowing users to add up to three collaborators on any feed post or Reel. This expands from the previously allowed single collaborative account. All contributors will gain access to organic insights such as view and like counts. While it cannot be used for paid promotion, this feature enhances engagement and could boost community networks by showcasing collaborative artwork or projects.
