📈 Threads App Sets Record with 100M Users in a Week

Threads, an Instagram app, achieved a record 100 million users in less than a week, far surpassing rates of ChatGPT, TikTok, and Instagram. The app integrates with Instagram, allowing users to post text, video, or images, and share across platforms. However, it's facing criticism and potential legal issues due to privacy concerns and accusations from Twitter of stealing trade secrets. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg mentioned that the rapid user sign-up was "beyond our expectations." The app currently isn't available in the EU due to data privacy regulations.

🧑‍💻 Google Ads Rolls Out Tool for Gen Z Engagement

Google has launched the Gen Z Music lineup, a tool designed to assist marketers in understanding and connecting with Gen Z consumers. The tool uses Google AI to identify trending music among 18- to 24-year-olds, package relevant music videos, and allow advertisers to display their campaigns alongside this content. The paid feature aims to place brands at the forefront of culture and engage one of the largest online consumer groups.

📞 Twitter Experiments with Voice, Video Calls in DMs

Twitter is developing a new direct message (DM) interface featuring voice and video calls, aiming to expand the app's functionality. The feature, currently under development, is accessed by tapping a call icon in the DM feed. Although it might be challenging to shift users from popular messaging apps to Twitter for calls, incorporating this functionality could encourage new types of engagement and align with broader changes in app interactions.

💰 Amazon Prime Day to Feature Custom Deal Feeds

For this year's Amazon Prime Day, Amazon will provide additional discounts of up to 40% on non-Amazon brands using its 'Buy with Prime' service. Customers will discover deals through shoppable videos and photos via 'Inspire' and 'Shop by Interest' feeds and personalized deal feeds. A live-streamed game show on TikTok will also offer exclusive discounts. The company aims to boost sales and engagement after a period of layoffs and flat growth in online store sales.
